A surge in suspected measles-like infections has been recorded in Sherpur, with hospital admissions continuing to climb.

The district health authorities are tracking the situation as fresh cases emerge across multiple Upazilas.

On Friday morning, Civil Surgeon Dr Md Shahin said eight new patients with symptoms were admitted to Sherpur District Hospital in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of hospitalised patients to 46.

A total of 201 patients with measles-like symptoms sought treatment in the district between Mar 30 and Jun 5, he said, adding that samples were collected from 123 of them and 110 sent to Dhaka for testing.

"Fourteen cases have so far been confirmed as measles and one child has died," he said.

Dr Shahin advised that anyone showing symptoms be isolated immediately.

Residents have also been told to wear masks, wash hands regularly, and use hand sanitiser.
