Bangladesh’s suspected measles deaths have crossed 500, with six more child fatalities reported over the last 24 hours.

Another 42 people have also been diagnosed with the viral disease during the same period.

On Tuesday, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said in its regular measles bulletin that 90 people have died from confirmed measles infections since Mar 15.

Another 504 people have died after showing symptoms consistent with suspected measles.

It added that Dhaka Division recorded the highest number of suspected deaths at 204, followed by 85 in Rajshahi Division.

In the last 24 hours, 1,292 people with measles symptoms were admitted to hospitals, with 1,204 requiring admission for treatment.

Dhaka hospitals accounted for 441 of those admissions, while Rangpur reported the lowest at 34.

Overall suspected cases have reached 73,362, while confirmed infections stand at 9,136 across the country.
