Six more people have died and 1,561 have been hospitalised with dengue across Bangladesh in the past 24 hours.
The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) puts this year’s death toll at 149.
September has accounted for 52 deaths so far, the highest monthly toll this year.
In its bulletin on Sunday, the health directorate said 176 patients were admitted to hospitals in Dhaka North City Corporation and 144 in Dhaka South during the 24 hours to 8am Saturday.
Another 307 were admitted to hospitals elsewhere in Dhaka Division.
Among other divisions, 202 were hospitalised in Barishal, 181 in Chattogram, 275 in Khulna, 93 in Mymensingh, 104 in Rajshahi, 73 in Rangpur and six in Sylhet.
According to the bulletin, 1,394 dengue patients were discharged from hospitals in the past 24 hours.
This year, 51,837 people have been hospitalised with dengue, with 48,093 recovering and leaving hospital.
The DGHS has kept dengue hospitalisation and death records since 2000.
In 2023, 321,179 people were hospitalised and 1,705 died, both the highest figures recorded.
Last year, more than 400 people died and about 102,000 were diagnosed with dengue.
