Five more deaths with measles symptoms as hospital admissions cross 100,000

Another 147 people test positive over the past 24 hours

Bangladesh has recorded five more deaths with measles symptoms in a 24-hour count, while admissions surged past 100,000 across hospitals nationwide.

The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Monday said 147 more people tested positive for measles between 8am on Sunday and the following 24 hours.

The health directorate has been publishing daily measles data since Mar 15.

So far, 95 people have died from confirmed measles, while 698 others have died with measles symptoms.

Dhaka Division recorded the highest number of symptom-related deaths at 303, followed by Sylhet with 101.

Rajshahi Division reported 89 deaths, Chattogram 56, Barishal 43, Mymensingh 66, Khulna 31 and Rangpur nine.

Over the past day, 922 people with measles symptoms sought treatment at hospitals nationwide, with 889 admitted.

Among them, 326 were admitted in Dhaka Division, 203 in Chattogram, 131 in Barishal, 63 in Mymensingh, 58 in Sylhet, 53 in Khulna, 40 in Rajshahi and 15 in Rangpur.

The total number of patients admitted to hospitals with measles symptoms has now reached 101,026, of whom 97,532 have been discharged.

Bangladesh has recorded 118,570 suspected measles cases so far, including 14,578 confirmed infections.
