Dengue has claimed three more lives across Bangladesh in a single day, taking the year's toll to 74, as hospitals admitted 753 fresh patients.

Total hospital admissions for the year have now climbed to 25,601, a Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) bulletin said on Tuesday.

Among the new patients, 135 were admitted to hospitals under Dhaka North City Corporation and 106 under Dhaka South, with 51 more admitted elsewhere in Dhaka Division.

Outside Dhaka, Barishal recorded 98 admissions, Chattogram 94, Khulna 135, Mymensingh 61, Rajshahi 46, Rangpur 24 and Sylhet three.

The health directorate has tracked dengue hospitalisations and deaths since 2000.

Cases peaked in 2023, with 321,179 hospitalised and 1,705 deaths, the highest on record.

Last year, more than 400 people died of dengue, with around 102,000 cases confirmed nationwide.
