Bangladesh has recorded eight more dengue deaths in a 24-hour count, alongside a record 1,733 hospitalisations across the country.
The deaths include four from Dhaka South City Corporation areas, three from Chattogram Division and one from Mymensingh, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
The government’s toll has now reached 157 this year, including 59 deaths in September -- the highest monthly figure so far this year.
According to Monday’s DGHS bulletin, between 8am Sunday and 8am Monday, 170 patients were admitted to hospitals in Dhaka North and 143 in Dhaka South.
Outside the two city corporations, 388 were admitted elsewhere in Dhaka Division.
The figures for other divisions were 191 in Barishal, 191 in Chattogram, 302 in Khulna, 110 in Mymensingh, 145 in Rajshahi, 86 in Rangpur and seven in Sylhet.
Another 1,282 patients were discharged in the same 24-hour period.
This year, 53,570 dengue patients have been hospitalised and 49,375 discharged.
The health directorate has tracked dengue hospitalisations and deaths since 2000.
In 2023, 321,179 patients were hospitalised and 1,705 died -- the highest figures recorded. Last year, more than 400 died and about 102,000 were diagnosed.
