They portrayed Bangladesh’s independence struggle in the event titled ‘For the Map’ sending the message across that they are ‘differently able, not disabled’.

The Parents Forum for the Differently Able – Vocational Training Centre organised the evening on Thursday night at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, it said on Saturday.

State Minister for Social Welfare Nuruzzaman Ahmed and Executive Chairman of Bangladesh Investment Development Authority Kazi Aminul Islam were present, among others.

They were “mesmerised” by the show and spoke about the children and their talents.

Chairman of the Vocational Training Centre Sajida Rahman Danny said they were "equipping their children with training" and urged the government to "involve them in suitable works."

Autism spectrum disorders (ASD) are a group of complex brain development disorders. This umbrella term covers conditions such as autism and Asperger syndrome.

These disorders are characterised by difficulties in social interaction and communication and a restricted and repetitive repertoire of interests and activities.

According to the WHO, reviews estimate that one in 160 children has an autism spectrum disorder. Some recent studies have, however, reported rates that are substantially higher.
