Bangladesh government opens inquiry into deaths of 6 newborns in Dhaka hospital

Its panel is to submit its findings within three days

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has formed a three-member committee to investigate the deaths of six newborns receiving treatment at Ad-din Hospital in Dhaka’s Moghbazar.

According to an official order on Wednesday, the committee will be led by the joint secretary (private healthcare management) under the Health Services Division.

The deputy director (hospital-1) at the Directorate General of Health Services has been appointed member secretary, while the assistant director of the legal wing of the DGHS will serve as a member.

The committee had been formed to investigate the sudden deaths of six newborns at Ad-din Medical College Hospital.

The committee has been asked to determine the causes behind the deaths and recommend measures to prevent similar incidents in future.

It has been directed to submit its findings within three days.

The order also said the committee may co-opt additional members if required.
