Bangladeshi filmmaker Noman Robin is set to make his American debut with ‘Mighty Eighty’, a 43-minute documentary profiling Bob Hopkins, a Dallas-based celebrity fundraiser and philanthropist.
As part of a joint initiative between Triple Nine Global and Guerrilla Gold Films, ‘Mighty Eighty’ will be screened at the award night of 14th International Film Festival Manhattan on Oct 11.
During the event, Hopkins will be presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award for his contributions to society.
The film showcases “the extraordinary life of Bob Hopkins, who at the age of eighty continues to ride horses, play tennis, teach at five universities weekly, publish books, and pursue his dream of establishing philanthropy institutes worldwide”, according to a press release.
Hopkins is also an educator, the editor of magazines ‘Philanthropy World’ and ‘Philanthropy Texas’, and a ‘revered promoter of positivity among the younger generation’.
He also has a unique perspective on the act of giving.
"The equation is simple: if you give something to the cause, nature is going to return it threefold or more,” Hopkins says.
Producer Naila Bari emphasises the importance of sharing his modern approach to philanthropy, stating: “Bob's new definition of philanthropy is essential for the younger generation; it inspires them to become givers.”
Reflecting on the significance of the philanthropist’s journey, Noman says: “We’ve been following Bob’s story for years. His life is fascinating and full of inspiration. He embodies a spirit of relentless pursuit and innovation that can profoundly influence others.”
The film is co-produced by Linia Ahmed Kiki, executive produced by Bob Whisnant, edited by Christopher Clinton Kubi, with graphics by Stefan Chisim and music by Prottoy Khan.
The film aims to be showcased at various film festivals, educational institutions, film clubs, and non-profit organisations worldwide to try and inspire millions, especially the young, by sharing the powerful and galvanising them to take action.
