The interim government has released a documentary paying tribute to celebrated writer Humayun Ahmed on the occasion of his birth anniversary, observed on Nov 13.

State-run news agency Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS), citing the Chief Advisor’s Press Wing, reported that the Ministry of Cultural Affairs unveiled the documentary on Tuesday, highlighting the late author’s contribution to literature, film, and television.

It added that the 25-minute-and-28-second episode is part of the “Celebrating Bangladeshi Legends” series.

According to BSS, the episode says Humayun’s stature extends far beyond being the most popular writer in Bangladesh, noting his distinctive achievements as a filmmaker, playwright and lyricist.

It also portrays how characters such as Himu, Misir Ali, Rupa, and Shuvro come to life through his pen.

Humayun, regarded as one of the most powerful icons in Bangladesh’s literary and cultural sphere, was born on Nov 13, 1948.

He died on Jul 19, 2012, in a New York hospital after battling cancer.
