Apu appeared in an interview aired live by Dhaka-based broadcaster News24 on Monday with a child she claims to have had with Khan.

The actress has recently returned home after staying abroad and remaining almost out of touch with the film industry for a year.

She said she tied the knot with Shakib in 2008 and gave birth to their son, Abraham Khan Joy, on Sep 27 last year.

Before marriage, she converted to Islam and changed her name to Apu Islam Khan.

Apu has appeared on News24 a few months after getting involved in a 'conflict' with actress Shabnam Yasmin Bubli over pairing with Shakib in a film.

The actress turned emotional while piling allegations against Shakib.

As per Apu’s claim, Shakib tied the knot with her at his residence in 2008. The ‘kazi’ (who administered wedding under Islamic tradition) was summoned from Faridpur’s Bhanga Upazila. Shakib’s brother and producer witnessed the marriage.

Apu said she was keeping the news under cover until now for the sake of Shakib and his career.

Shakib and Apu were cast as a pair for the first time in a 2006 film, Koti Takar Kabin.

The duo then appeared in a number of box office hits. Rumours swirled around their love affair ever since.

Apu suddenly 'disappeared' from the industry at the beginning of last year.

Prominent actor Shakib admitted that he married Apu and fathered the son.

"I take responsibility for my son.”

“But what she did was not fair," he told bdnews24.com, disapproving of Apu’s interview with the media.

The actor said he would speak to the media at a press conference Tuesday afternoon.

As reporters gathered at her Niketon home on Monday evening, Apu said she was happy to hear Shakib’s offer to take responsibility for their son.

“Shakib need not take responsibility for me. I am an independent person,” said the actress who starred in 50 films.

Brushing off speculations that she decided to speak to the media after the Bubli incident, Apu said: “Why should Bubli be a factor? We have been married for a long time. My son will soon be six months old.”

“We have all the evidence of our marriage.”
