The National Curriculum and Textbook Board (NCTB) has announced that it will publish online versions of textbooks for primary and secondary levels from Sunday.
Students will be able to access PDF copies of these textbooks on the NCTB website.
NCTB Public Relations Officer SM Asaduzzaman said students will be able to read their new textbooks online even before the end of the year.
Students will be able to access PDF copies of 647 textbooks in Bangla and English versions for primary and secondary levels on the NCTB website (www.nctb.gov.bd).
The NCTB publishes the online versions of new textbooks every year.
Domestic publishing houses are printing nearly 300 million textbooks for primary and secondary levels this year.
The printing of 85.9 million copies of new books for pre-primary and primary students was completed on Dec 16.
However, the printing of 214.3 million books for secondary and Ebtedayee students is still largely pending. This has raised concerns about whether all secondary-level students will get new books on the first day of the new year.
“The online release of the books is intended to enable students to continue their studies even if the delivery of the printed copies is delayed,” said Asaduzzaman.
Last year, students had to wait until March to receive all secondary-level textbooks. The NCTB had planned to begin printing secondary-level books in September this year, but the schedule was not met.
Printing of the 214.3 million copies for secondary and Ebtedayee levels finally began in November.
NCTB Distribution Controller Mohammad Matiur Rahman Khan Pathan told bdnews24.com on Friday night, “So far, 55 percent of the total textbooks have been distributed at the Upazila level. Printing of 71 percent of the books has already been completed.”
All students will get new textbooks by Jan 15, he added.
