Students unhappy with their Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and equivalent results can now seek a rescrutiny, with applications opening Tuesday.

The window runs until Aug 17, with candidates required to pay Tk 150 per paper for each subject reviewed.

This year, answer scripts of applicants will undergo full reassessment rather than just simple retallying, said Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon.

Results were published on Monday, with the minister detailing the overall situation at a press conference at the Secretariat afterwards.

A total of 690,608 candidates failed this year's SSC and equivalent exams, up from 600,660 last year, a jump of 89,948 candidates.

At the press briefing, Milon said: "What's changed this year is that we've amended the law (Public Examinations Act) so that scripts of students seeking reassessment will be reviewed anew.

“We'll check whether they received the correct marks, whether the script was mixed up, and so on. Previously, only the tabulation sheet was checked (the total marks were retallied).”

“This time, a review committee will sit and go through the entire script," he added.

Applications for rescrutiny were previously accepted via SMS, but education boards shifted to the website rescrutiny.eduboardresults.gov.bd starting with last year's HSC and equivalent exams.

This year's SSC rescrutiny applications will also go through the same portal.

How to Apply

Education boards said in a notice that candidates must visit rescrutiny.eduboardresults.gov.bd, enter their roll and registration numbers in the designated fields, select their board from the dropdown menu, then click submit.

Applicants must provide a mobile number, to which an SMS will be sent once rescrutiny results are published.

The next screen displays subject-wise results.

Candidates can select one or more subjects for rescrutiny, then click “Pay Fee”.

A fee of Tk 150 applies per paper, with candidates required to apply for both papers in two-paper subjects.

Fees can be paid via bKash, Nagad or Sonali Sheba, after which applicants must return to the portal and click “Submit”.

Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Dhaka said candidates who wish to add more subjects after submitting and paying can do so the same way, without needing to re-enter their mobile number.

If changes are needed before payment, applicants can click "Delete" to withdraw selected subjects not yet paid for and choose new ones.

Once fees are paid, however, applied subjects cannot be cancelled, and fees will not be refunded under any circumstances.

The notice added that education boards will not accept manual or in-person rescrutiny applications.
