Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) have banned the movement of the public within 200 yards of exam centres conducting the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and equivalent examinations.

The DMP issued the ban through a public notice on Tuesday.

The exams are set to begin Jul 2. This year's HSC exams will be held with a common question paper for the nine general education boards in the country. Common question papers will also be used for the exams under the madrasah and technical education boards.

The DMP said in the notice that the police commissioner had issued the ban under the authority of Sections 28 and 29 of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police Ordinance (Ordinance No. III/1976) in the effort to conduct the exams in a fair and peaceful manner.

"Unauthorised entry of the public, aside from candidates and persons related to the exam, within 200 yards of various examination centres in Dhaka is completely prohibited."

The police said the order will be in force from Jul 2 until the exams are over.

The HSC theory exams kick off on Jul 2 with the Bangla First Paper and will continue until Aug 8. The practical examinations will be conducted by Aug 15.

The examinations are to be held from 10am to 1pm and from 2pm to 5pm on the scheduled days.

Candidates will have to enter their centres 30 minutes before the start of the examinations. The first 30 minutes of the exams will be multiple-choice questions, while the last two and a half hours will be on essay-based questions.
