Students across Bangladesh will receive new textbooks on Jan 1, Primary and Mass Education Advisor Bidhan Ranjan Roy Poddar has said.

He confirmed the development on Saturday after attending a ceremony at the National Academy for Primary Education (NEP) in Mymensingh.

“We will ensure students have the new books in their hands on the 1st of January. Since primary schools serve as polling centres during elections, preparations have been made to prevent any incidents of books being destroyed,” he added.

The advisor highlighted the recently launched Diploma in Primary Education (DPEd) course for aspiring teachers, noting that it was introduced before they formally become educators.

“Previously, this did not exist in our country. Our goal is to provide training for those committed to teaching. The course will improve professional skills and attract dedicated individuals, positively impacting overall education,” he said.

On teachers’ protests and the implementation of the 11th-grade pay scale, Poddar said: “The Pay Commission will determine salaries. We have communicated our position and engaged all relevant stakeholders to ensure implementation.

“Exams were unnecessarily delayed due to protests, but teachers later understood and withdrew their actions. Children’s learning was affected, but it will be corrected with forthcoming exams.”
