A sparkling innings from Mosaddek Hossain and a steady knock from Najmul Hossain Shanto has taken the Tigers to a solid 284/4 in the first ODI against Australia in Mirpur.

Despite the early loss of Saif Hassan, Tanzid Hasan (54) and Najmul Hossain Shanto (67) kept up a steady flow of runs to give Bangladesh a solid foundation early in the match on Tuesday.

Pacer Nathan Ellis (3-38) and off-spinner Matt Renshaw (2-35) caused some issues in the middle overs, picking up the wickets of Tanzid, Litton Das (7), and Shanto to hold Bangladesh to 140-4 in the 26th over.

But Mosaddek (86*) came to the rescue, posting his highest ever ODI score to keep the Tigers competitive. Initially alongside Towhid Hridoy (31) and then other lower order batsmen, he managed to keep the runs coming through to the end of the innings.

The Aussies won the toss and chose to field.

Australia are touring Bangladesh for a three-match ODI and three-match T20 series.

All three ODIs are to be held in Mirpur, with the second on Thursday.

The T20 series will be held in Chattogram and will begin on Jun 17.
