They called off their demonstration following assurances from the deputy commissioner and the college principal on Wednesday.

Students started agitating on Sunday, demanding a 250-bed hospital, filling up 40 teaching posts, and resolving transport problems.

The agitators allege resident medical officers are taking classes which is harming their studies.

Fourth-year students Atiqur Rahman and Mizanur Rahman Tanvir claimed a 250-bed hospital, scheduled to be completed in September 2013, was still under construction.

They said they had to travel six kilometres to go to the Satkhira Sadar Hospital for practical classes.
