The Rajshahi University Central Students’ Union (RUCSU), hall council, and Senate elections will be overseen by 2,000 police personnel, according to Rajshahi Police Commissioner Mohammad Abu Sufian.
During a briefing on Tuesday afternoon, he said that intelligence teams are already monitoring the internal environment of the university.
He said, “Given the size of Rajshahi University and its multiple entry points, we will establish a security ring centred around election booths, effective from the day before the elections. We will adapt our plan based on the overall situation.”
The Proctor’s Office has outlined a three-tier security system on campus.
Alongside the Student Policing Community -- consisting of university students -- police, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), and Ansar members will provide security.
A 40-member team of faculty members will also be on continuous duty.
Proctor Prof Mahbubor Rahman stressed, “We are taking every precaution to ensure security. From seven days before the election, no one will be allowed to enter the campus without proper identification.”
The election campaign began on Monday and will continue until 10pm on Sept 23, with voting set for Sept 25 from 9am to 4pm.
VOTING ACROSS 17 CENTRES
The polls will be held across 17 centers in nine buildings, with 990 booths set up, according to Chief Election Commissioner Prof F Nazrul Islam.
The voting centres will be located at Momtaz Uddin Academic Building, Muhammad Shahidullah Academic Building, Sayed Ismail Hossain Siraji Academic Building, Rabindranath Tagore Academic Building, Jabir Ibn Hayyan Academic Building, Jamal Nazrul Islam Science Building, Satyendra Nath Bose Academic Building, Jagadish Chandra Bose Academic Building (two centres each), and one center at Zuberi Bhawan.
After voting, the results will be counted at the RUCSU Treasurer’s Office and announced at the Kazi Nazrul Islam Auditorium.
Prof Nazrul added that CCTV cameras will monitor the entire vote-counting process.
