Bangladesh advances to next phase of APSCO CubeSat project under NSU faculty Shahnewaz

A Bangladeshi research team has completed hands-on space technology training at the Asia-Pacific Space Cooperation Organization (APSCO) CubeSat Competition Summer Camp in Xi’an, China, setting the stage for the development of an engineering model of their satellite design.

The team was led by Shahnewaz Siddique of North South University’s (NSU) Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering.

According to a media statement issued by the university, Shahnewaz headed the delegation during the two-week intensive camp held at Northwestern Polytechnical University from Aug 12 to 25.

The training provided comprehensive instruction across critical CubeSat subsystems, including onboard computing, control, communications, power systems, structural integration, thermal management, and ground-station interfacing.

The team secured its position at the camp following a selection process overseen by the Bangladesh Space Research and Remote Sensing Organisation (SPARRSO), the national focal agency for APSCO.

After SPARRSO issued a call for participation, the team submitted comprehensive CubeSat designs, which were formally evaluated and approved by an APSCO expert panel.

With the training completed, the team is advancing to the next project phase: building, testing, and validating a functional engineering model based on their approved designs – a milestone expected to boost Bangladesh’s domestic capabilities in space technology and small satellite research, NSU said.
