The government has initiated a major administrative overhaul at the Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC), reassigning a dozen officials following the removal of two top directors.
The reshuffle comes amid heightened concerns over the country’s fuel supply chain as the conflict in the Middle East continues to destabilise global energy markets.
The state-run agency responsible for importing and supplying fuel oil in Bangladesh issued the transfer orders on Sunday, affecting officials at the corporation and its subsidiary companies.
The changes follow the decision to make two BPC directors Officer on Special Duty (OSD) last Thursday.
OSDs are usually not assigned any work in the policymaking or implementation process of the government.
State Minister for Power and Energy Iqbal Hassan Mahmood Tuku confirmed the move, citing negligence of duty.
"They did the opposite of what the ministry instructed," he told bdnews24.com.
The two ousted officials, AKM Azadur Rahman (director, operations and planning) and Muhammad Ashraf Hossain (director, marketing), were immediately attached to the Ministry of Public Administration.
Following their removal, Sunday’s order reassigned 12 other officials across BPC and its subsidiaries.
The officials have been directed to assume their new roles by Monday afternoon, with the order specifying they will be “stand released” if they fail to comply.
After the weekly holiday, Sunday -- the first working day of the week -- saw further changes affecting 12 officials.
Among the key changes, Senior General Manager and Managing Director of LP Gas Limited Md Yusuf Hossain Bhuiyan has been given additional charge of BPC’s Distribution and Marketing Division.
Senior General Manager Manilal Das has been posted to the Transport and Development Division, while General Manager Muhammad Morshed Hossain Azad has been assigned to the Commerce and Operations Division.
General Manager Mohammad Zahid Hossain has been transferred to the Distribution and Marketing Division.
Deputy General Manager Md Jahangir Kabir has been attached to the chairman’s office and given additional responsibility for the Finance Division, while Deputy General Manager Shahriar Mohammad Rashed has been transferred to the Distribution and Marketing Division.
Changes were also made at the manager level.
Manager Md Badrul Islam Fakir has been posted to the Audit Division, while Manager Md Al-Amin has been assigned to the Accounts and Fund Accounts Division.
Under the same order, Senior Sales Officer Shishir Aich from Meghna Petroleum Limited has been brought to BPC’s Distribution and Marketing Division.
Abu Noman Muhammad Moin Uddin Shibli, who had been working at Jamuna Oil Company Limited, has been appointed as a law officer in BPC’s administration branch.
Junior officer Md Golam Rabbani has been transferred from the Audit Division to the Establishment Branch.
