The government has decided to purchase eight cargoes of liquefied natural gas (LNG) on an emergency basis without issuing any tender to address the gas shortage.
The decision was made on Wednesday at a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs held at the Secretariat, chaired by Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury.
Outlining the meeting's decisions, a finance ministry media statement said the eight LNG cargoes will be procured via direct international procurement methods in order to meet urgent gas demand.
Under one proposal, the committee approved the purchase of two cargoes of LNG each from Hong Kong-based Zhenyu Shipping Company Ltd and Malaysia’s Petronas LNG Ltd.
Additionally, two cargoes of LNG will be procured from China's Runzi Holdings Group Ltd, alongside another two cargoes from Darab Inc of the US.
