They sought support of the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority or BIDA to set up office in Dhaka in a meeting with its Executive Chairman Kazi M Aminul Islam on Thursday.

BIDA, which is currently working on a series of reform initiatives to bring investors to Bangladesh, said its chief assured the GE delegation of providing all sorts of support.

GE operates their businesses through a range of segments including aviation, healthcare, power, renewable energy, digital industry, venture capital and finance, lighting, and oil and gas.

Last year it signed investment deal with the Bangladeshi Summit Group to set up a 2400 megawatt (MW) thermal power plant and related oil and LNG terminals along with Japan’s Mitsubishi Corporation.

A counsellor at the Japanese embassy, Yasuharu Shinto, and First Secretary Takeshi Shimokyoda also met the BIDA chief on Thursday.

They discussed special economic zones and showed interest in the automobile sector investment.
