On his fifth visit to Dhaka since the formation of the first tribunal in 2010, Rapp went to the tribunals and the investigation agency’s office on Monday.
He held meetings with the stakeholders and inquired about the progress of investigations.
The US official, while interacting with reporters after the visit, said he was ‘happy’ with the tribunals’ activities.
Sanaul Haq, senior member of the tribunal’s investigation arm, said Rapp had a two-hour meeting with them.
“He asked us about our work progress and future plans,” Haq told bdnews24.com.
He said Rapp, a former prosecutor at UN-mandated the international crimes tribunal, shared his experience with them which “greatly benefitted” the tribunal officials.
Rapp paid a courtesy call on six judges of the tribunals and met the prosecutors in the afternoon.
The US official had earlier expressed his country’s support for trying suspected offenders who committed crimes against humanity during Bangladesh’s 1971 Liberation War.
But at the same time he had also highlighted several ‘procedural errors’ in maintaining international standards in the trial process.
