The Cumilla Superintendent of Police’s Office has changed investigating officer in the murder case of 13-year-old schoolboy Ishayat Shahriar Apratim.
An officer with the rank of inspector will investigate the case, the district's Additional Superintendent of Police Md Lutfur Rahman said on Friday night.
The investigation into the case was started by Sub-Inspector (SI) Saiful Islam of Cumilla Sadar Dakshin Model Police Station.
On Friday, Saiful said that the case will now be investigated by the police station's Inspector (Investigation) Rajib Ahmed. All the documents in the case will be handed over by today.
Rajib, who now takes the lead on the investigation, confirmed that the SP’s office has ordered a change in the investigation officer in the case. He said he will launch his investigation after receiving the case documents.
"I hope that, following the investigation, I will be able to submit the chargesheet in the case to the court as soon as possible."
Apratim was the son of Nahida Begum, a teacher in the Depart of Bengali at Comilla University, and went missing on the afternoon of Sept 18. He was a student in seventh-grade at Border Guard Public School in the Kotbari area.
On Sept 19, police recovered his body from a forest in the Sananda area of the Lalmai Hills.

The day after the body was recovered, police alleged that Apratim was killed in order to rob him of the iPhone he was carrying.
The teeanger’s father, KM Firoz Shahriar, has filed a case over his murder.
Police have so far arrested four people in connection with the case. Of these, Saiful Islam Tuhin and Siam – both 19 years of age - are in Cumilla Central Jail.
The remaining two suspects have been sent to the Gazipur Child Development Center as they are minors.
