Dhaka, March 2 (BDNEWS) – Islami Chhatra Shibir cadre and a most wanted criminal of port city Chittagong, Nasir, widely known as Gittu Nasir was killed in 'crossfire' with the RAB at Hathazari area early Wednesday.
The RAB personnel also recovered a revolver, a double barrel rifle, two single barrel rifle, 48 rounds bullet of AK-47 and 10 cartridges from the spot where the gun fight took place, RAB sources said.
Earlier, the black strikers apprehended him with a sophisticated AK-47 rifle from capital's Jatrabari area Monday night.
According to sources, the battles ensued when the members of RAB conducted a massive drive at Hathazari area to catch his accomplices and to recover deadly weapons. During the drive, Nasir accompanied the team, RAB said.
RAB sources said the accomplices of Nasir fired on them as they reached there at about 4 am. The law enforcers retaliated and as Nasir tried to escape taking chance and caught in the crossfire died on the spot.
A notorious criminal Nasir was accused in at least 20 other criminal cases including sensational 'eight-murder' and 'triple murder' cases.
Besides, at least six cases and two general diaries were registered with the Chandgaon, Panchlaish, Baizid and Kotwali thanas against the Islami Chhatra Shibir cadre.
Gittu Nasir and his armed accomplices gunned down eight Chhatra League activists by brushfire on July 12, 2000.
The Shibir cadre and his accomplices brutally gunned Professor Muhury storming his house in November 2001. A Speedy Trial Tribunal sentenced him to death in abstentia.
They killed Saiful, another Chhatra Shibir cadre, and two of his brothers at Baluchara area in June 2004.
Nasir is also an accused in a ward commissioner killing case in the port city.
Quoting police, BDNEWS Chittagong correspondent reported that Gittu Nasir established a reign of terror at Sholo Shahar, Hathazari, Bahaddarhat and Chandgaon areas enjoying the blessings of Islami Chhatra Shibir.
He had been dominating the area since the arrest of his 'creator', another Nasir, in 1997.
Gittu's leading accomplices were Habib Khan, Sajjad Khan, Foyez Munna and Five Star Jasim.
Among them, Foyez Munna was killed in another 'crossfire' with the RAB on February 13 this year.
