Dhaka, Mar 1 (bdnews24.com) – Phone bill outstanding of 21 members of the seventh and eighth parliaments works out to a whopping Tk 3.87 million, telecommunications minister Rajiuddin Ahmed Raju told the House on Thursday.
Rajshahi-4 BNP MP Nadim Mostafa has the highest amount Tk 901,085 due against him, he said.
Naogaon-2 BNP MP Mohammad Shamsujjoha Khan is in the second top defaulter MP with a due aggregating to Tk 707,062.
The eighth parliament whip and Khulna-3 BNP MP, Mohammad Ashraf Hossain, ranks third sitting over an outstanding amount of Tk 407,337.
Awami League's A S M Firoz, the whip of ninth parliament, owes nearly Tk 190,000 and Rahmat Ali, the head of the parliamentary standing committee on local government ministry, Tk 3,411 in telephone bill dues.
The dues against 12 members of the seventh parliament amount to nearly Tk 1.8 million, and nine of the eighth parliament over Tk 2 million.
The other defaulters of the seventh parliament are Feni-2 MP Joynal Abedin Hazari with Tk 197,742 due, Pabna-3 MP Mohammad Waziuddin Khan Tk 107,019, Nilphamari-2 MP Ahsan Ahmed Tk 178,024, Kishoreganj-4 MP Mizanul Haque Tk 303,551, Barisal-6 MP Syed Masud Reza Tk 189,644, Laxmipur-3 MP Khairul Enam Tk 69,952 and Dhaka-13 MP Ziaur Rahman Khan Tk 10,006
Among the MPs from seats reserved for women, Begum Panna Kaiser owes for telephone Tk 176,495, Khaleda Khanam Tk 4,748 and Farida Rauf Asha Tk 24,591.
Defaulters in the eighth parliament include Kurigram-4 MP Golam Habib Dulal with Tk 31,274 dues against him, Jessore-1 MP Mohammad Ali Kadar Tk 186,587, Kushtia-2 MP Shahidul Islam Tk 838, Chuadanga-1 MP Shahidul Islam Biswas Tk 146,628 and MP from seat revered for women Rosy Kabir Tk 13,658.
