The Lahore High Court Bar Association (LHCBA) condemned the hanging of war criminal Abdul Quader Molla, said a report on Wednesday.
Terming Molla a ‘great Muslim soul’, they demanded that his execution be taken to the International Court of Justice “to stop Bangladesh from hanging more people on same charges”.
Adopting a resolution to this end on Tuesday, the general house meeting of the LHCBA made the call while carrying a resolution filed by its member Mian Muhammad Raoof.
The resolution said that the LHCBA considered the tribunal, ordering punishing Molla, illegal and unconstitutional.
It also condemned the Pakistan government, accusing it of being silent on the issue.
At the general house meeting, LHCBA President Abid Saqi appreciated Molla for “his struggle to keep Pakistan united”.
He said the Bangladeshi government had committed grave violation of human rights by hanging him.
He lamented Bangladesh by executing its first war criminal breached an understanding between the two countries that no case on war crimes would be proceeded.
The lawyers sympathised with Molla who they think was in jail for 43 years – ever since the birth of Bangladesh.
The meeting of Pakistani lawyers also blamed India for malignant intent and claimed “that most of Bangladeshis lived for Pakistan and Abdul Quader Molla was one of them.”
Pakistan had on Monday adopted a resolution in its National Assembly, expressing concern at the hanging of Molla on Thursday.
The Bangladesh government on Tuesday summoned the Pakistani envoy in Dhaka, lodging a strong protest against the Pakistani move.
Earlier on Wednesday, Ganajagaran Mancha – created by the youth-led mass uprising – gave the government 20 hours to sever ties with Pakistan.
