Pro-BNP Amar Desh’s Publication Division’s Acting Chairman Mahmuda Begum has also been implicated in the case filed under the Printing Presses and Publications (Declaration and Registration) Act, 1973.

Mahmuda is the mother of Amar Desh’s Acting Editor Mahmudur Rahman.

Ramna Model Police Station ASI Mosharraf Hossain informed bdnews24.com of the development.

Assistant Commissioner Nasrin Sultana, also an Executive Magistrate (Publications), filed the case for illegally printing, publishing, exhibiting and selling Amar Desh on Sunday.

ASI Hossain said 19 people had been shown arrested in the case. “Illegal materials had been found on them,” he said.

On Saturday, the law keepers raided Sangram’s Al-Falah Printing Press at Moghbazar and confiscated some 6,000 copies of Amar Desh.

Police last Thursday arrested Acting Editor Mahmudur and are questioning him in their custody with regard to three cases.

The press of the daily was sealed off following the raid there.

As per Printing Presses and Publications Act, a newspaper needs permission from district magistrate if it wants to print its copies outside the designated press.

Media reports have it that Amar Desh is to get the permission.
