Dhaka, Mar 2 (bdnews24.com) — Son of prime minister Sheikh Hasina, dropped his popular nickname Joy and introduced himself as Sajeeb Ahmed Wazed on Tuesday.
Meaning victory in Bengali, 'Joy' was named as the liberation forces were approaching victory in 1971 during Bangladesh's war of independence.
It is said that the country's founding president Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Sajeeb's grandfather and Hasina's father, had picked the name himself.
The unceremonious name change comes within days of Wazed officially joining the ruling Awami League party.
On Tuesday, Sajeeb Ahmed Wazed, introduced as an IT professional, and notably without the well-known moniker, presented the government's ambitious 'digital vision' during the launch of Digital Bangladesh: Plan of Connecting People.
