Rajshahi, June 4 (BDNEWS)- Rajshahi University authorities cancelled 88 recent ad-hoc appointments at different high positions of the university in the face of agitation of employees on Saturday.
The employees gheraoed Vice Chancellor Professor Faisul Islam Faruki protesting new recruitment before resolving the much talked 544 appointments in master roll.
Employees of the university cordoned the VC for three hours from 12pm to 3pm. In such situation, the VC announced the cancellation of new 88 ad-hoc appointments.
A syndicate meeting was scheduled for Saturday evening to take final decision on cancellation of ad-hoc appointments.
Rajshahi University Teachers' Association (RUTA) President Prof Nazrul Islam, General Secretary Abdul Hai Talukder, Proctor Abdus Salam, personal assistant to the Vice Chancellor Hosel Azam, Chairman of Arabic Department Abdul Haque were assaulted when they tried to cool down the agitating employees of the university.
Huge number of police was deployed on the university campus during the agitation programme of employees. No clash occurred then.
The RU authorities gave appointment to 544 in master roll on April 17 last year. A case on this appointment is pending with the court. The Judge's Court in a verdict has already termed the appointment 'illegal'. The case is at present under trial in the High Court.
