Sherpur, Oct 12 (bdnews24.com) — An activist of BNP has been stabbed to death at Nakla Upazila in Sherpur over establishing supremacy in the locality.
Police said that the BNP activist, identified as Unga Miah, 50, son of Bulu Munsi of Chithlia village under Ganapaddi Union of the Upazila was killed on Tuesday afternoon.
BNP has been blaming the local Awami League for the murder.
Quoting the locals, officer-in-charge AKM Fasiur Rahman told reporters that Unga Miah had a dispute with Abdul Jalil, Abdul Barek and Chand Miah of the same village for a long time.
"The rivals stabbed Unga indiscriminately in his chest and stomach with a knife while he was returning home from Sherpur town around 5.15pm, leaving him dead on the spot."
BNP's central publication secretary and also former whip Zahed Ali Chowdhury alleged that the Awami League supported criminals killed Unga over previous enmity. He demanded immediate arrest and exemplary punishment of the criminals involved in the murder case.
Nakla Upazila Awami league's acting president Golam Rabbani said that Unga was a notorious thief and also a listed criminal of the Nakla Police Station. "It's not clear who killed him."
He alleged that the local BNP had been trying to involve the AL activists and leaders in the murder case for its political purposes. "The Awami League leaders and activists are not involved in the murder."
Rahman said that the police started a probe into the incident soon after it had taken place. The body was recovered and sent to Sherpur Sadar Hospital for autopsy.
