Former adviser to the caretaker government Rasheda K Choudhury has been re-elected President of Dhaka University's English Department Alumni Society or EDAS.

Former senior secretary to the government Hedayetullah Al Mamoon became the General Secretary of the Society in the elections held during their annual bash at the university’s Teachers and Students Centre on Saturday.
Mamoon succeeded bdnews24.com Editor-in-Chief Toufique Imrose Khalidi, who was elected EDAS general secretary for a sixth straight term last year.
Businessman Syed Sadaquat Hossain and Professor Mobashera Khanam are on the new EDAS executive committee as vice-presidents. Rapid Action Battalion Director General Benazir Ahmed and Additional Secretary at education ministry Md Aminul Islam Khan will be there as joint-secretaries.
The department's Chairperson Prof Rubina Khan remains the ex-officio treasurer.
After the election, EDAS President Rasheda said, “This is an executive committee any association would be proud of. But we will miss some of our ex-colleagues, particularly Toufique Imrose Khalidi.”
“Let me acknowledge what he has done. He was one of us, but he has been doing a wonderful job, particularly listening to all of our demands and trying to accommodate all of those demands. Wonderful Toufique!” she said.
She also said Wazir Sattar, from whom she took charge as EDAS president last year, was “our guide and philosopher”.
The president then called Toufique to deliver a speech and the bdnews24.com editor-in-chief thanked everyone.
The elected members of the new committee are: Prof Dr Kajal Bandyopadhyay, former NBR chairman Abdul Mazid, Prof Nevin Farida, actress Suborna Mustafa, poet Gultekin Khan, Prof Abdur Razzak Mian, former World Bank official Samina Amin, businessman Shahinul Huda Jewel, Income Tax Commissioner Mohammad Rafiqul Islam Chowdhury, Deputy Commerce Secretary Abdus Samad Al Azad, entrepreneur Humaira Chowdhury, and corporate executives Akib Javed, Fahim Dad Khan, and Syed Nakib Sadi.
