Osman on list of Twaki’s ‘killers’

Rabbi submitted the list of seven suspects at the office of the district’s Superintendent of Police.

The others on the list are Osman’s son Ayon Osman, Ayon’s two associates Saleh Rahman ‘Simanta’ and ‘Rifat’, district Jubo League Publicity and Publication Secretary Zahirul Islam Parvez alias ‘Kangaroo Parvez’ and district Chhatra League Vice-president Rajib Das and General Secretary Mizanur Rahman Sujon.

A strong supporter of Narayanganj City Corporation Mayor Selina Hayat Ivy, Rabbi has been saying that Osman was involved in Twaki murder – a claim the former MP has dismissed as ‘conspiracy’. The body of 17-year-old Twaki, a student of A-Level of ABC International School, was recovered from the bank of the Shitalakkhya River on Mar 8, two days after he had gone missing. Though Rabbi did not mention the name of Osman, a rival of the Mayor, in the case filed following the recovery of Twaki’s body, he accused him of being involved in the murder at a rally last Friday. Mayor Ivy also raised the same allegation in the rally. He sought to justify not naming the suspects in the case before. Rabbi said in the complaint submitted to police: “No name was mentioned as (I was) mentally and physically upset and drained.” “After overcoming the mental stress a bit, considering the overall situation now I suspect that they (the people on the list) strangled my son after mercilessly torturing him in a pre-planned way. SP Syed Nurul Islam told reporters that the complaint of Rabbi against all, including Shamim Osman, would be looked into. Rabbi told bdnews24.com that he submitted the complaint to ensure that Osman’s family come under investigation. Earlier on Monday, he told a press conference: “Pressure is being put on police from some quarters in the Ministry of Home Affairs. They cannot work properly if there are pressures from the high-ups.”
