He was pulled up for not showing as arrested, two former RAB officers who have been arrested for suspected involvement with the murders.
IO Mamunur Rashid Mondol will have to reply to the notice on the day when the disgraced RAB officers would be produced in the court after their remand expires.
Senior Judicial Magistrate KM Mohiuddin issued the order on Sunday on a petition by the son-in-law of slain lawyer Chandan Kumar Sarkar.
Police arrested former Lt Col Tarek Sayeed Mohammad, who was the Commanding Officer of the Narayanganj-based RAB-11, and a former army Major Arif Hossain from Dhaka cantonment early on Saturday.
They were shown arrested under Section 54 before being produced in the court.
The court on Saturday granted police five days to question them.
The other disgraced RAB officer former Lt Commander MM Rana was arrested early on Sunday.
Narayanganj district Lawyers’ Association Advocate Sakhawat Hossain said the former RAB officers were not shown arrested in the murder case for which they expressed resentment.
“We have filed a petition on behalf of son-in-law of slain lawyer Chandan Kumar Sarkar to show them arrested in the murder case.”
The court issued the show-cause notice to the IO after hearing the petition, Hossain said.
The court said from the evidence it was proved that the accused were involved in the murder.
Their involvement was also mentioned in the report on showing them arrested under section 54, it said.
The IO will have to report the court on why they were not shown as arrested in the murder case on the day when the former RAB officers would be produced in the court after their remand expired, the order said.
Fingers were pointed at RAB officials after Councillor Nazrul, Chandan Sarker and five others were abducted on Apr 27.
After their bodies were recovered three days later, Nazrul’s father-in-law Shahidul Islam alleged that RAB officials had taken Tk 60 million from another local Councillor Nur Hossain for carrying out the murders.
The three -- Tarek, Arif and Rana -- were withdrawn from Narayanganj and later forced into retirement soon after the murders.
The High Court on May 11 ordered police to arrest them.
