Dhaka, Chittagong, Sylhet and Noakhali’s intercity, mail and local trains started the new schedule in the morning.
Tofazzal Hossain, General Manager of the Railway’s Eastern Zone, told bdnews24.com, “There is an ongoing work to transform into double tracks the rain lines from various areas including Dhaka’s Tongi-Bhairab and Laksam-Chinki.”
“The schedule for 63 mail, intercity and local trains under the eastern railway has been either shifted back of pushed forward by 20-40 minutes because trains will have to slow down in those areas.”
The trains will run in this schedule until the work to create double tracks is complete, he said.
This process saw change in schedule for both arrival and departure for 33 intercity and 30 mail and local trains.
Chittagong Station Manager Shamsul Alam said the trains headed for various districts on Wednesday are running on the new schedule.
He said Suborna Express started off for Dhaka at 6:40am instead of 7am, Mahanagar Probhati at 7:20am instead of 7:00am, Paharika Express left for Sylhet at 8:15am instead of 8am, Sagarika Express headed for Chandpur left at 7:30 instead of 8am.
Udayan Express headed for Sylhet will leave at 9:30pm instead of 9pm.
But the schedule for Mahanagar Godhuli, Turna Nishitha and Dhaka Mail will continue unchanged.
Besides these, the arrival and departure times have been changed for destinations such as Noakhali, Tarakandi, Kishoreganj, Akhaura, Laksham, Mymensingh and Joydebpur as well as trains headed for Dhaka and Chittagong from various districts.
Railway’s website is still showing the old schedule even though the timetable is effective from Wednesday, despite the decision to post advertisements of the new schedule three days ago.
