Narayanganj residents continue protest

Residents of Narayanganj have blocked the Dhaka-Chittagong highway for the third consecutive day demanding rescue of abducted City Corporation Councillor Nazrul Islam and four others.

Nazrul’s supporters put up a barricade on the highway in Mouchak since 9am on Wednesday, said Siddhirganj Police Station OC Abdul Matin.

Traffic came to a halt on the Dhaka-Chittagong highway and Dhaka-Narayanganj link road.

The protesters took out processions in several phases from the morning which disrupted vehicular movements and created traffic snarl, witnesses said.

The councillor’s wife Selina Islam alleged that even three days after her husband’s abduction police failed to rescue him or arrest anybody.

OC Matin said they were trying to resume traffic on the highway.
