Quoting the victim’s family, police said Nazrul Islam was abducted on Sunday by people posing as RAB members from the city’s Adalatpara after he secured bail in a case.
Islam was the former general secretary of Bangladesh Chhatra League’s (BCL) Narayanganj district unit. BCL is the student wing of the ruling Awami League.
Police are yet to confirm identities of the four others.
Narayangan’s district Superintendent of Police Syed Nurul Islam said that they had received a complaint from the councillor’s wife Selina Islam Beauty.

He said they found the car the councillor and his aides were riding abandoned at Gazipur’s Rajendrapur around 9pm.

The RAB denies being involved.

Commander of RAB-11 Lt Col Tarik Sayeed Mahmud said the elite force had nothing to do with the incident.

According to the wife, the councillor along with his aides was travelling to Dhaka in a car around 1:45pm after getting bail.

They were abducted as soon as they hit the road, she said.

She pointed the finger at rival Awami League leaders Noor Hossain and Haji Md Yaseen for the abduction.

Hossain, also a city corporation councillor, denied his involvement.
