Bandarban, May 21 (BDNEWS) – The military in a bid to curb terrorism began a combing operation in the inaccessible deep forest and areas of the hill district of Bandarban on Friday morning in which over 300 army personnel took part.
The government sources said, the drive has been kept a secret in apprehension of the information being divulged to the godfathers and terrorists.
It was learnt, two drives of similar nature were launched towards the end of last year and the beginning of the current year. No terrorists were apprehended in those operations though some sophisticated arms were retrieved.
A month long 'Operation Uttaran' was launched in the previous year following the abduction of a retired military subedar and a farmer by several foreign terrorist groups including Democratic Party of Arakan (DPA). After the operation the terrorists crossed the border.
But recently they have again started their terrorist activities. Terrorists abducted a bulldozer driver and his assistant of a contractor firm from Bangchchari area under Roangchchari upazila on April 1 last. The law enforcers have not been able to trace him out over the past 50 days.
Responsible sources said, the army has started their operation to rescue two abducted workers. But there has not been any confirmed report about how long the drive would continue.
