Dhaka, June 2 (BDNEWS) – Major General Rezzaqul Haider is going to be the next chief of army staff.
A highly placed source at the government said Thursday the decision has been taken at the highest policymaking level of the government. An announcement in this regard will be made shortly, the source added.
Gen Rezzaqul Haider is currently the commandant of Mirpur Staff College.
Hailing from Feni, Haider was commissioned in the 45th batch of Pakistan Military Academy.
He will replace Lt Gen Hasan Mashhud Chowdhury whose tenure completes on June 16.
The highly placed source said Chowdhury was offered a one-year extension as the chief of army staff, but he expressed his inability.
There are hearsays that Rezzaqul Haider possesses opposite characteristics of the current army chief.
