Dhaka, May 23 (bdnews24.com) – The High Court on Sunday asked the government to explain why it should not be required to take effective measures to enforce the copyright law against piracy.
The High Court bench of justices AHM Shamsuddin Chowdhury and Md Delwar Hossain gave the order on a writ petition by Bangladesh Film Producers and Distributors Association president Gazi Mazharul Anwar and Music Industries Owners Association secretary Md Shahed Ali.
The commerce secretary, finance secretary, cultural secretary, science and technology secretary, information secretary, home secretary, director general of RAB, inspector general of police, and the copyright board's chairman and registrar were asked to respond within three weeks.
The court also asked the relevant officials to submit a monthly report on the steps taken against piracy.
Mehedi Hasan Chowdhury argued for the petitioner.
The state was represented by deputy attorney general Nazrul Islam Talukder.
