A 28-year-old man from Karimgonj Upazila of Kishoreganj who was participating in the Ukraine war for the Russian army has been killed in a drone attack, a friend has informed his relatives.
One of his friends confirmed the death by a "Ukrainian drone attack" from a Russian army camp on Friday evening.
Meanwhile, local police visited the house of the dead in Majhirkona village of Zafrabad Union on Saturday and identified him as Md Riyad Rashid.
He was the son of Abdur Rashid, a former schoolteacher, said Karimganj Police chief Md Emranul Kabir.
According to the family, Riyad went to Russia for work in October 2025. Later, he joined the Russian army on Apr 7.
His batch number was 735, they said, adding that Riyad last spoke to them on Apr 28.
Citing the relatives, Emranul said: "Riyad was killed in a drone attack by Ukrainian forces on May 2. His family was informed of his death by his friend Limon Dutta, who was in the same Russian army camp."
Riyad's father said Limon informed them of Riyad’s death on Messenger on Friday evening.
“Limon himself was also injured in the attack. He is currently undergoing treatment in the hospital. Limon lost a leg in the attack,” said Rashid.
"Two Bangladeshis and a Nigerian were killed in that incident. In addition, three others were injured," he said.
Zafrabad Union Council Chairman Abu Sadat Md Sayem said he, too, visited Riyad’s family after the news broke.
“The family is in mourning. The government should stand by them,” he added.
