Bangladesh has asked the Maldives to open up more employment opportunities for its workers.
Prime Minister's Foreign Affairs Advisor Humaiun Kobir made the request during a courtesy meeting with Maldivian High Commissioner to Dhaka Shiuneen Rasheed on Wednesday.
It took place at the Prime Minister's Office in Tejgaon, where Kobir pressed for an expansion of employment avenues for Bangladeshi workers in the tourism-dependent island nation, the foreign ministry said.
The Maldives is home to an estimated 100,000 Bangladeshi workers.
The two sides also discussed bilateral relations and matters of shared interest, with emphasis on deepening cooperation in tourism, human resources and investment, the ministry said.
Both reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening the longstanding friendly ties between the two countries, it added.
