Three passengers on a three-wheeler, including a father and daughter, have been killed after their vehicle was rammed by an ambulance in Jashore’s Jhikargacha Upazila. Two others have been injured in the accident.
The incident occurred on the Jashore-Benapole Highway near the Nabibnar Molla Filling Station around 7am on Wednesday, according to Rokonuzzaman Ripon, chief of Navaron Highway Police Station.
The dead have been identified as 32-year-old Hasan Iqbal, his daughter 11-year-old Ratna Khatun, and 50-year-old Nazma Begum. All three hail from Godkhali Union in Jhikargacha Upazila.
Hasan’s wife Halima Khatun, 30, and three-wheeler driver Bablu Mia, 35, were injured in the accident.
“The three-wheeler was taking passengers towards Sharsha,” OC Rokonuzzaman said. “Along the way, an ambulance travelling in the opposite direction rammed it hard from the front. The injured were rescued and rushed to Jhikargacha Upazila Health Complex, where the doctor-on-duty declared three dead.”
The three bodies have been handed over to the families at their request and the injured have been transferred to Jashore Hospital as their condition is critical, the police official said.
