Md Kamruzzaman Chowdhury, who was serving as secretary of the Health Services Division, has been appointed the new secretary of the public administration ministry in a major reshuffle in the administration.
Md Ehsanul Haque, who had been serving as senior secretary of the ministry, has been transferred to the Planning Commission as a member. His posting was changed just 15 days after his contract was extended.
Meanwhile, three additional secretaries have been promoted to the rank of secretary and assigned to three offices under two ministries.
The public administration ministry issued separate notifications on Wednesday announcing the promotions and transfers.
ANM Bazlur Rashid, an additional secretary at the Ministry of Public Administration, has been promoted to secretary and posted to the Health Services Division.
AKM Benjamin Riazi, an additional secretary at the Ministry of Industries, has been appointed secretary of the Health Education and Family Welfare Division.
Yasmin Begum, an additional secretary at the Cabinet Division, has been promoted to secretary and posted to the Ministry of Cultural Affairs.
Meanwhile, Cultural Affairs Secretary Kaniz Mowla has been attached to the Ministry of Public Administration for her next posting.
The new public administration secretary took charge as secretary of the Health Services Division on a contractual basis on Mar 3 this year. Within six months, he was given the more important responsibility of heading the public administration ministry.
Ehsanul, outgoing senior secretary of the Ministry of Public Administration, was appointed secretary on a two-year contract by the interim government on Aug 17, 2024, following the change in power that year.
At the time, the interim government appointed five retired additional secretaries to the rank of secretary. Ehsanul was among them.
He was initially appointed secretary of the Road Transport and Highways Division. On Oct 12 last year, he was promoted to senior secretary and transferred to the Ministry of Public Administration. He has now been sent to the Planning Commission.
