Members of the Inqilab Moncho have staged a sit-in outside the chief advisor’s official residence, demanding a United Nations-led investigation into the murder of Sharif Osman bin Hadi.
The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) banned meetings and rallies near the State Guest House Jamuna two days ago.
Undeterred by the prohibition, protesters began gathering at 7pm on Thursday, shouting slogans.
At 8:45pm, Ramna Division DMP Deputy Commissioner Masud Alam said: “We are talking to them.”
Earlier, at 4:45pm, the Inqilab Moncho announced via its Facebook page that members, led by Secretary Abdullah Al Jaber, had taken position outside Jamuna.
By 6:15pm, a post urged students and supporters to maintain a peaceful presence if no response came from Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus within an hour.
Later, another post said: “We are surrounded by hundreds of police and other forces, prepared with batons.

“Our final word: until Hadi’s murder is handed to a UN-led impartial investigation, we will not budge, even if killed.”
Hadi, who rose to prominence during the July Uprising and the movement to ban the Awami League, was a prospective candidate for Dhaka-8 in the elections.
On Dec 12, he was shot by assailants on a moving motorcycle in Bijoynagar while campaigning, and later airlifted to Singapore, where he died on Dec 18.
Following his shooting, Jaber filed an attempted murder case on Dec 14, later upgraded under Section 302.
The investigation, handled by the Detective Branch of police, identified 17 suspects, including former ward councillor Taizul Islam Chowdhury Bappy and former Bangladesh Chhatra League activist Faisal Karim Masud.
Five of the suspects, including Faisal, remain at large.
