Regent Hospital Chairman Md Shahed has been arrested again, this time in a case filed with Pallabi Police Station.
Word of his arrest in Dhaka’s ECB came through on Sunday.
Pallabi Police Station chief Hasan Bashir said there was a warrant against Shahed in a complaint register (CR) case.
Cantonment police detained him at Pallabi police's request, he added.
"We are going to bring him in. Once we have him, we'll be able to share more details," the officer said.
Shahed had walked free on bail on Sept 4, a month after the 2024 July Uprising, having spent nearly four years behind bars.
He had 35 cases pending against him, including fraud and acquiring assets beyond his known income, and was released after securing bail in all of them one after another.
Shahed's name first made headlines during the COVID-19 pandemic, when the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) raided Regent Hospital in Uttara on Jul 7, 2020.
Fake coronavirus test reports were seized from the hospital.
The RAB filed a case at Uttara West Police Station over the incident, accusing Shahed and 16 others of forging COVID-19 certificates.
Nine days later, on Jul 15, RAB arrested Shahed in Satkhira’s a border area.
The elite force then raided a location in Uttara with him and recovered weapons.
Several more cases followed against Shahed over multiple fraud allegations.
A court sentenced him to life imprisonment on Sept 28, 2020, in a case filed under the Arms Act.
In a case over acquiring wealth beyond his known income, a court sentenced him to three years in prison on Aug 21, 2023.
Separately, he had earlier been sentenced to six months in a cheque forgery case in 2010.
Among the 35 cases against Shahed is one filed under the Money Laundering Prevention Act.
According to a Criminal Investigation Department (CID) report in that case, he had defrauded people of more than Tk 110 million.
