The government has appointed Farida Khanom, a deputy secretary at the Ministry of Home Affairs, as the new deputy commissioner (DC) and district magistrate of Dhaka.
The Ministry of Public Administration issued the order on Wednesday, confirming the transfer and new posting within the senior civil administration structure.
Outgoing Dhaka DC Md Rezaul Karim has been transferred from the post and posted as deputy secretary in the Cabinet Division.
Farida completed her education in political science at Dhaka University, earning her bachelor’s degree in 2001 and master’s in 2002.
She joined the Bangladesh Civil Service in 2006 under the administration cadre as a 25th BCS officer.
Her professional career began in the Rajshahi Divisional Commissioner's Office, where she first served as an assistant commissioner and executive magistrate.
She previously served as Chattogram DC before being transferred to the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change on Sept 21 last year and later posted to the home ministry.
The BNP government has initiated a series of reshuffles and new appointments at the highest levels of the civil service and law-enforcing agencies since assuming power, a trend that continues with these latest changes.
