Four people have died after entering underground tanks in two separate incidents in Chattogram, with two deaths reported in Raozan Upazila and two others in the city's Double Mooring area.

In Raozan, two men died after entering a septic tank at Jhikuti Para in Noapara Union.

The dead were identified as Pradip Das, 38, and Samiran Das, 32.

Pradip was a resident of Kochukhain village in Noapara Union, while Samiran hailed from Kodurkhil village in Boalkhali Upazila.

Sub-Inspector Anisur Rahman of the Noapara police outpost told bdnews24.com that the incident occurred at the under-construction house of Kartik Das in Jhikuti Para.

"Several workers had entered the septic tank to carry out work. One of them fell ill, prompting Pradip Das to climb into the tank. Although he managed to help the worker out, Pradip himself collapsed inside the tank. Samiran Das then entered the tank to rescue him but also collapsed," he said.

Fire Service personnel later recovered both men from the septic tank, but they had already died, the police officer said.

Police said Pradip and Samiran were cousins, and the house where the incident occurred belonged to Pradip's in-laws.

Two More Die in City

In a separate incident, two construction workers died after entering an underground tank beneath a building under construction in Dhaniyala Para under Double Mooring Police Station.

The incident occurred on Friday afternoon at a building owned by Nurul Huda.

The dead were identified as Hridoy, 25, and Sakib, 22, both identified only by their first names.

SI Manik Ghosh of the police station told bdnews24.com that work was under way inside the underground tank.

"It has not yet been confirmed whether it was a septic tank or a water reservoir. A bamboo framework had been installed inside the tank," he said.

"One worker first entered the tank to remove the framework. When he could not climb out, another worker went in to rescue him. Neither of them was able to come back out."
