3rd ex-RAB officer arrested

Arrest RAB officers: HC

He is among three former RAB-11 officers accused of abducting and killing Ward-2 Councillor Nazrul Islam and six others in exchange for money last month.

Former Lt Commander Rana was arrested in Dhaka Cantonment on May 17, a day after his two other colleagues were arrested from the same place.

The other two disgraced officers - former Lt Col Tarek Sayeed Mohammad and former Maj Arif Hossain - are now in a second round of police remand for eight days following a 5-day one.

The two have been also shown arrested over the crimes.

Police produced the former Navy officer before Senior Judicial Magistrate AKM Mohiuddin at Narayanganj on Sunday afternoon after a 7-day remand and sought another 10 days to question him.

The court remanded the former RAB officer for eight days in police custody, who along with two of his colleagues, are allegedly involved in the multiple murders.

The men were removed from their parent forcers after the bodies of seven men, abducted from Narayanganj city on Apr 27, were found floating on Shitalakhyya River at Bandar Upazila.

The three were removed from RAB-11 even before the abducted men were found dead.

Rana was the commander of a RAB-11 camp in the Narayanganj old court area.

Family members of the slain councillor claimed that the seven were murdered in that camp.
