A 3-year-old boy has died after being struck with a stick in Jorarganj, Mirsharai, during a clash over a land dispute.

The incident took place in Dakshin Sonapahar of Jorarganj in Mirsarai Upazila around 11am on Wednesday, police said.

The child has been identified as Nur Abdullah. Police have detained three people for questioning.

Family members and police said neighbours of the victim’s father Nurul Alam had been in a land dispute with the family of Deen Islam.

Nurul told bdnews24.com that the dispute began a few days earlier when Deen’s family started constructing a house within the boundaries of his property, prompting the family to start a case.

“Construction was temporarily stopped following a court order, but resumed on Wednesday morning.

“When my mother tried to stop the work, Deen and his brother Ariful Islam beat her up.”

Nurul said his child, who was playing at home at the time, was struck on the head with a stick by Deen.

He was taken to the hospital in critical condition and died around 2pm.
